Calm is a performance and artistic installation that offers a unique encounter between three disciplines: boxing, sound, and image.
At the heart of this performance, a boxer confronts his punching bag. But as the blows and minutes pass, it is no longer just a physical confrontation: the bag gradually seems to become an oppressive entity, absorbing every movement, every breath of the boxer.
Thanks to an ingenious setup combining sensors, microphones, and circuit bending, the boxer’s movements are transcribed into sounds and images, creating a chaotic symphony. The dull sound of leather being struck, the boxer’s ragged breaths, and the frantic beating of the artist’s heart blend together to immerse the spectator in growing tension.
The room, entirely plunged into darkness, exacerbates this feeling of immersion. The audience is invited to intensely feel this unequal fight, where the boxer, initially in control of his movements, seems to gradually lose himself, overwhelmed by the unfathomable power of the bag, a confrontation between the human and a force that seems to grow stronger as time passes.
